The Chad passport ranking relative to other global passports is calculated by adding up the number of countries that allow Chad passport holders to enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) and those that allow Chad passport holders to enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or electronic travel authorization (eTA). There are currently a total of 24 Chad passport visa-free countries, 27 Chad visa-on-arrival countries, and 2 eTA destinations.

Altogether, Chad passport holders can enter a total of 53 destinations—either without a visa, through a visa on arrival, or via an eTA. As a result, the Chad passport ranks 87 in the world.

About Chad

The landlocked Republic of Chad is a former French colony consisting of 23 regions. It is located in Central Africa. The country borders Sudan, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger and Libya. The most important provinces are Ville de N’Djamena, Logone-Oriental, and Mayo-Kebbi Est. Chad is the 5th largest country in Africa with a surface area of 1.2 million square kilometers. Its geography is dominated by plains in the center, deserts in the north, and mountains in the northwest. The climate is tropical in the south and desert in the north.

The overall population is approximately 15.4 million people. The capital of the country is N’Djamena, which is also the most populous city with 1.3 million inhabitants. Other important cities of the county are Moundou and Abéché. The largest and only international airport is N’Djamena International Airport (NDJ). It connects the capital to multiple destinations across Africa and to France.

Its culture is dominated by the French heritage and tribal traditions. More than half of the population is Muslim. Other main religions are Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The official languages are French and Arabic, with tribal dialects and languages still widespread. The legal system is a mix of the civil and customary law. The government form is a presidential republic with President Mahamat Déby as elected chief of state and head of government.

The official currency of the country is Central African CFA franc (XAF) with the current exchange rate being XAF 594 to the USD. The country has an open economy, generating a GDP of approximately $13.5 billion, making it the 29th largest economy in Africa. It has a per capita income of $755. The GDP is mostly made up of 2 key sectors, which are services and agriculture. Its main goods of exports and economic contributors are crude petroleum (40% of exports), gold, cotton, and construction materials.

Chad is a developing tourism destination, currently offering limited tourist attractions and destinations. It is known for its vast wildlife, safari tours, and various national parks. Popular activities are trekking safaris and hunting. Some of the main destinations include the capital N’Djamena, the Zakouma National Park, Am Timan, the Tibesti Mountains, and Aouk National Park. Tourism is still in its early stages and not very widespread. The majority of the 87,000 yearly tourism visitors originate from the neighboring African countries and France.
