The Union of the Comoros is a former French colony consisting of 3 Islands. The islands are Ngazidja, Ndzuwani and Mwali. It is located in the Indian Ocean, on the East coast of Africa. The closest countries on the African continent are Mozambique and Tanzania. The nation is one of the smallest in Africa with a surface area of 1,861 square kilometers. Its geography is dominated by volcanic steep mountains and low hills. The climate is tropical marine with a rainy season from November to May.

The overall population is approximately 850,688 people. The capital is Moroni, which is also the most populous city with over 55,000 inhabitants. Other important cities of the county are Moutsamoudou and Fomboni. The largest airport is Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport (HAH) with an approximate yearly passenger traffic of 160,000 people. It connects Comoros to multiple destinations across Africa and its islands. The airport was named after Prince Said Ibrahim, a former Prime Minister.

Its culture is dominated by the Islam. The majority of the population is Muslim. The official languages are French, Arabic and Comorian. The legal system is a mix of the French civil law, the sharia and customary law. The government form is a federal presidential republic with President Azali Assoumani as elected Chief of State and Head of Government.

The official currency of the country is Comorian Franc (KMF) with the current exchange rate being KMF 416 to the USD. The country has an open economy, generating a GDP of approximately $2,.4 billion, making it the second last economy in Africa. It has a per capita income of $2,799. The GDP is mostly made up of 2 key sectors, which are services and agriculture. The country depends on foreign grants and most of its GDP is generated though agriculture and remittances by nationals overseas. Its main goods of export are spices, vanilla, cloves, fish, cinnamon and perfume essences.

The Union of the Comoros is a developing tourist destination with many natural beauties. It is known for its vast beaches and water activities. Popular activities are boating, fishing and diving. Some of the major destinations include Mohéli, Fomboni, Anjouan, Grande Comore, the capital Moroni, Petite Terre and mount Ntigui. There are approximately 35,000 yearly touristic visitors coming to the islands.
