Mexico Passport Ranking

The Mexican passport currently ranks on the 25th place according to the Guide Passport Ranking Index. It provides visa-free access to 158 countries. This grants it an overall high mobility score and makes it a desirable passport. Mexican passport holders have visa-free access and visas on arrival to countries such as Singapore, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the entire European Union. This allows almost instant travel opportunities worldwide. Mexican passport holders do however require a visa to enter about 71 destinations. Some countries where a visa is required are Taiwan, the United States and Australia.

Mexico Passport Ranking

The Mexico passport ranking relative to other global passports is calculated by adding up the number of countries that allow Mexico passport holders to enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) and those that allow Mexico passport holders to enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or an electronic travel authorization (eTA). There are currently a total of 118 Mexico passport visa-free countries, 36 Mexico visa-on-arrival countries, and 4 eTA destinations.

Altogether, Mexico passport holders can enter a total of 158 destinations—either without a visa, through a visa on arrival, or via an eTA. As a result, the Mexico passport ranks 25 in the world.

Separate from these Mexico visa-free countries and visa-on-arrival countries, there are 71 additional destinations which Mexico passport holders either need a physical visa to enter or an eVisa (i.e. visa required countries).

The United Mexican States are a former Spanish colony consisting of 31 states. The most important states are México, Veracruz and Jalisco. The country is situated in North America, bordering the United States, Guatemala and Belize. Mexico has a total surface of 1,972,550 square kilometers, making it the 13th largest country in the world. The country’s terrain is varying from rugged mountains to coastal plains and plateaus. Its climate is diverse from tropical to desert type.

The overall population is approximately 128 million people. The capital of the country is Mexico City, which is also the most populous city with 8.9 million inhabitants. Other major cities are Ecatepec, Guadalajara and Puebla City. The country’s largest international airport is Mexico City International Airport (MEX) with 50,3 million annual passengers. This makes it the 33rd busiest airport in the world. The airport provides access to destinations all around the world.

The culture of Mexico is a blend of indigenous and Spanish heritage. The majority of the population is Catholic. The official language is Spanish. The Mexican legal system is based on the civil law with US constitutional law influence. The government form is a federal presidential republic. The chef of state and the head of government is President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

The official currency is the Mexican Pesos (MXN), which is at a current exchange rate of MXN 20 per USD. The country has an open economy, generating a GDP of approximately $2.7 trillion, making it the 11th largest economy in the world. Its citizens have a per capita income of $21,362. The GDP is mostly made up of the services and industry sector. Mexico puts a big emphasis on the manufacturing industry especially with its biggest trading partner, the United States. Other major export goods are, electronics, auto parts, oil, fruits, vegetables and coffee. The nation is the world’s largest silver producer.

Mexico is filled with a variety of urban and natural tourism attractions. That is why it is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world. It is known for its vast beaches and nature. Some of the major destinations include Teotihuacan, Chichen Itza, Tulum, Copper Canyon, Palenque, Cozumel and the capital Mexico City. The main tourist activities are fishing, sightseeing, diving, watersports and hiking. The island nation has a total of approximately 45 million tourists visiting every year with the majority originating from North America and Europe. Also, it is an especially popular cruise ship destination for day visitors.
