The Swedish passport currently ranks on the 6th place according to the Guide Passport Ranking Index. It provides visa-free access to 191 countries. It is considered one of the most desirable passports in the world with a very high mobility score. Swedish passport holders have visa-free access and visas on arrival to countries such as Brazil, Japan, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and United States allowing almost instant travel worldwide. Swedish passport holders do however require a visa to enter about 38 destinations in the world. Some countries where a visa is required are China, India and Russia.

The Sweden passport ranking relative to other global passports is calculated by adding up the number of countries that allow Sweden passport holders to enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) and those that allow Sweden passport holders to enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or an electronic travel authorization (eTA). There are currently a total of 145 Sweden passport visa-free countries, 35 Sweden visa-on-arrival countries, and 11 eTA destinations.

Altogether, Sweden passport holders can enter a total of 191 destinations—either without a visa, through a visa on arrival, or via an eTA. As a result, the Sweden passport ranks 6 in the world.

Separate from these Sweden visa-free countries and visa-on-arrival countries, there are 38 additional destinations which Sweden passport holders either need a physical visa to enter or an eVisa (i.e. visa required countries).

The Kingdom of Sweden consists of 25 provinces and is part of the European Union. The most important regions are Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Skane. Sweden has a surface area of 450,295 square kilometers. The nation is located in Northern Europe and bordering Denmark, Norway and Finland. Its climate is temperate in the south and subarctic in the north. Its geography consists mostly of low and flat terrain with some rolling plains and mountains in the west.

The overall population is over 10.3 million people. The capital of the country is Stockholm, which is also the most populous city with more than 1 million inhabitants. Other important cities are Göteborg, Malmö and Uppsala. The largest airport is Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) with 25 million passengers per year followed by Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT) with 6.6 million yearly passengers. Stockholm airport is the 25th busiest airport in Europe and provides access to all parts of the world.

Swedish culture has strong ties with its Scandinavian neighbors. It is one of the most forward-thinking countries in the world in terms of tolerance and acceptance policies. The official language is Swedish. The legal system is the civil law based on Roman-Germanic and the customary law. The government type is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. and the head of government is Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.

The official currency of the nation is the Swedish krona (SEK) with the current exchange rate being SEK 8.4 to the USD. The country has a modern market economy, generating a GDP of approximately $563 billion, making it the 11th largest economy in Europe. Its citizens have a per capita income of $52,477. The GDP is mostly made up of services and the industry sector. Its main goods of export are steel, precision equipment, paper, motor vehicles, barley, wheat and sugar beets. The Swedish economy experiences moderate growth of about 3% per year.

Sweden offers a variety of historic and natural sites for visitors. It is especially known for its architecture, nature and beaches. Some of the major destinations include the Vasa Musem, Skansen and Djurgarden, Gamla Stan, Drottningholm and the Stockholm Archipelago. Stockholm has developed into a progressive center of art.
