USA Now Waives Visa Requirement for Citizens of 41 Countries
As of April 2025, nationals from 41 countries can enter the United States for up to 90 days without a visa under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
The VWP facilitates travel for most nationals from eligible countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business without needing to get a visa. Most recently, Romania joined the program in March 2025.
European countries form the majority of the eligible countries, but some countries in other regions such as Australia, Chile, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan are also in the VWP.
Before departing for the U.S., travelers must obtain an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval and meet a list of requirements.
The ESTA is an automated system to determine if an individual is eligible to travel to the U.S. It permits multiple entry into the country for two years, or until their passport expires – whichever is sooner.
The ESTA will take into account the applicant’s travel history and individuals from VWP countries who have traveled to Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen on or after March 1, 2011 will be deemed ineligible to travel under the VWP.
Nationals of VWP countries who have traveled to Cuba on or after January 12, 2021, and those who are also nationals of Cuba, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria will need to apply for a visa instead.
