Visadoro Launches Golden Visa Initiative for Cancer Research Investors
Portuguese investment migration firm, Visadoro, has announced that it’s launching a scheme to attract philanthropic investors who could donate to next-gen cancer research projects and apply for Portugal’s ‘Golden Visa’.
In late 2023, Portugal confirmed the end of the so-called ‘Golden Visa’ (officially known as the Residence Permit for Investment Activity or ARI) that enabled wealthy individuals to attain residency by purchasing real estate.
Currently, the Golden Visa only offers foreigners residency if they:
- Transfer capital over €1.5 million,
- Create 10+ jobs,
- Invest over €500,000 in research activities,
- Invest over €250,000 in the arts,
- Invest over €500,000 in a commercial society,
- Or, spend over €500,000 acquiring Portuguese investment funds or venture capital funds.
Visadoro, under CEO Jose Mineiro, will help investors receive cancer treatment benefits alongside residency rights when applying for the Golden Visa via investment in research activities.
Philanthropists must make a minimum investment of €750,000 towards cancer research projects in Portugal. In return, Visadoro offers cutting-edge cancer treatments in Lisbon with no pre-screening requirements and acceptance of pre-existing conditions, and minor dependents can be added as beneficiaries but will only become eligible for treatment once they turn 18.
This route to residency requires that investors spend just 7 days per year in Portugal during the 5-year Temporary Residency period. They’ll then qualify for Permanent Residency and may be able to apply for citizenship.
Furthermore, Visadoro will enable investors to also bring their family with them:
- Invest an additional €250,000 for a spouse (€1 million total),
- Invest €1.5 million for a family of 3,
- Invest €2 million for a family of 4.
Mineiro hopes that this initiative will attract wealthy foreign philanthropists to invest in Portugal’s cancer research, supporting the healthcare industry in addition to the Portuguese economy. For philanthropists, this initiative provides access to Portuguese residency rights alongside state-of-the-art cancer care, offering a unique dual-benefit opportunity.
