The Barbadian passport is currently ranked 21st place on the Guide Passport Index. It provides visa-free access to 165 countries. This grants it an overall high mobility score and makes it a desirable passport. Barbadian passport holders have visa-free access and visas on arrival to countries such as Singapore, United Kingdom, China and the entire European Union. This allows almost instant travel opportunities worldwide. Barbadian passport holders do however require a visa to enter about 64 destinations. Some countries where a visa is required are Taiwan, the United States and Australia.

Barbados Passport Ranking

The Barbados passport ranking relative to other global passports is calculated by adding up the number of countries that allow Barbados passport holders to enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) and those that allow Barbados passport holders to enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or electronic travel authorization (eTA). There are currently a total of 130 Barbados passport visa-free countries, 30 Barbados visa-on-arrival countries, and 5 eTA destinations.

Altogether, Barbados passport holders can enter a total of 165 destinations—either without a visa, through a visa on arrival, or via an eTA. As a result, the Barbados passport ranks 21 in the world.

Separate from these Barbados visa-free countries and visa-on-arrival countries, there are 64 additional destinations in which Barbados passport holders either need a physical visa to enter or an eVisa (i.e. visa required countries).

About Barbados

Barbados is a former British colony consisting of 11 parishes. The most important parishes are St. Michael, Christ Church, and St. Philip. The country is an island situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Venezuela. The country’s terrain is relatively flat with only a few forested hills. Its climate is tropical with a rainy season from June to October.

The overall population is approximately 287,025 people. The capital of the country is Bridgetown, which is also the most populous city with 110,000 inhabitants. Other major cities are Speightstown and Oistins. The country’s largest and only international airport is Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) with 2.3 million annual passengers. This makes it the 10th busiest airport in the Caribbean. It is named after the first prime minister of Barbados: Grantley Adams. The airport provides access to destinations in the Caribbean, Europe, and Northern America.

Barbados is dominated by the Creole culture. The majority of the population is protestant. The official language is English. Bajan an English-based creole language is however widely spoken. Barbados’ legal system is based on the English common law. The government form is a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. The chef of the state is Queen Elizabeth II. The head of government is the elected Prime Minister Mia Mottley.

The official currency is the Barbadian Dollar (BBD), which is permanently pegged to the USD at BBD 2.02 per USD. The country has an open economy, generating a GDP of approximately $6.1 billion, making it the 23rd largest economy in the Caribbean and Latin American countries. Its citizens have a per capita income of $21,086. The GDP is mostly made up of the services sector with tourism and agricultural goods contributing the vast majority to the country’s income.

Barbados is filled with a variety of urban and natural tourist attractions. That is why it is one of the most popular Caribbean destinations. It is known for its vast beaches and nature. Some of the major destinations include Carlisle and Bathsheba Bay, the capital Bridgetown, the Animal Flower Cave, the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, and the Sunbury Plantation. Main tourist activities are fishing, watersports, and hiking. The island nation has a total of approximately 1.3 million tourists visiting every year with the majority originating from North America and Europe. Also, it is an especially popular cruise ship destination for day visitors.
