The Fijian passport is currently ranked 56th place on the Guide Passport Index. It provides visa-free access to 89 countries. This grants it an overall medium mobility score. Fijian passport holders have visa-free access and visas on arrival to countries such as Singapore, Russia, China, Kenya and Israel. Fijian citizens require a visa to enter about 140 destinations. This high visa requirement results in a low mobility score and entails major trip preparations before traveling. Some countries where a visa is required are Taiwan, the United States and entire European Union.

Fiji Passport Ranking

The Fiji passport ranking relative to other global passports is calculated by adding up the number of countries that allow Fiji passport holders to enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) and those that allow Fiji passport holders to enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or an electronic travel authorization (eTA). There are currently a total of 57 Fiji passport visa-free countries, 30 Fiji visa-on-arrival countries, and 2 eTA destinations.

Altogether, Fiji passport holders can enter a total of 89 destinations—either without a visa, through a visa on arrival, or via an eTA. As a result, the Fiji passport ranks 56 in the world.

Separate from these Fiji visa-free countries and visa-on-arrival countries, there are 140 additional destinations which Fiji passport holders either need a physical visa to enter or an eVisa (i.e. visa required countries).

About Fiji

 

The Island Republic of Fiji is a former British colony consisting of 14 provinces. The most important provinces are Nadroga, Bua and Ba. The country is an island nation with over 330 islands situated in the South Pacific Ocean. The country’s terrain consists of mountains of volcanic origin and dense tropical forests. Its climate is tropical marine with only slight seasonal temperature variations.

The overall population is approximately 926,276 people. The capital of the country is Suva, which is also the most populous city with 77,366 inhabitants. Other important cities are Lautoka and Nadi. The country’s largest international airport is Nadi International Airport (NAN) with 2.3 million annual passengers. This makes it the busiest airport in the region. The airport provides access to destinations in Oceania, China and Taiwan.

Fiji is dominated by ancient traditions as the island was settled three and a half thousand years ago. The highest percentage religion is Protestantism (45%). The official languages are Fijian and English. The Fijian legal system is based on the English common law. The government form is a parliamentary republic. The chef of state is the elected President Wiliame Katonivere The head of government is Prime Sitiveni Rabuka. Elections are held every 4 years.

The official currency is the Fiji Dollar (FJD), which has a current exchange rate of FJD2.18 per USD. The country has an open economy, generating a GDP of approximately $9.1 billion, making it the 4th largest economy in Oceania. Its citizens have a per capita income of $10,251. The GDP is mostly made up of the services and industry sector. Tourism does play a major economic role together with the production of the “Fiji Water” brand and remittances of Fijians working overseas.

The Republic of Fiji is filled with a variety of natural tourism attractions. It is known for its vast beaches, nature and has one UNESCO world heritage site. Some of the major destinations include the Blue Lagoon, the Bouma National Heritage Park, Denarau Island, Pacific Harbour and the Great Astrolabe Reef. The main tourist activities are fishing, scuba diving, watersports, surfing and hiking. The island nation has a total of approximately 900,000 tourists visiting every year with the majority originating from New Zealand and Australia. The Republic of Fiji has been the location for various Hollywood movie productions further pushing popularity as a tourism destination.
