The Togo passport ranking relative to other global passports is calculated by adding up the number of countries that allow Togo passport holders to enter without a visa (i.e. visa-free countries) and those that allow Togo passport holders to enter by obtaining a visa on arrival (i.e. visa-on-arrival countries) or an electronic travel authorization (eTA). There are currently a total of 31 Togo passport visa-free countries, 27 Togo visa-on-arrival countries, and 1 eTA destinations.

Altogether, Togo passport holders can enter a total of 59 destinations—either without a visa, through a visa on arrival, or via an eTA. As a result, the Togo passport ranks 85 in the world.

About Togo

 

The Togolese Republic is a former French colony. Located in Western Africa, it consists of 5 regions. It borders with Ghana, Burkina Faso and Benin. The most important regions are Maritime, Plateaux and Savanes. The nation is the 41st largest country in Africa with a surface area of 56,785 square kilometers, making it one of the smaller sized countries of the continent. Its climate is tropical hot and humid in the south and semiarid in the north. The terrain is characterized by low coastal plains with marshes, central hills and savanna in the north.

The overall population is over 8.0 million people. The capital of the country is Lomé, which is also the most populous city. Other important cities of the country are Sokodé, Kara and Kpalimé. The largest airport is Lomé Tokoin International Airport (LFW). It connects the country to destinations across Africa, Europe and the United States.

The Togolese Republic gained independence from France in 1960. Its culture is dominated by a mix of traditions and the French heritage. There is a religious mix in the country, with the vast majority being Christians and animistic. The official language of the nation is French. The legal system is based on the customary law. The government form is a presidential republic with President Faure Gnassingbe as elected chief of state and Prime Minister Victoire Tomegah Dogbe as head of government. Elections take place every 5 years and the president is elected by simple popular vote.

The official currency of the country is the West African CFA franc (XOF) with the current exchange rate being XOF 617.15 to the USD. Togo has an open economy, generating a GDP of approximately $14.9 billion. This makes it the 40th largest economy in Africa. It has a per capita income of $1,821. The main GDP contributing sectors are services, agriculture and industry. Togo is one of the world largest exporters of phosphate and more than 20% of export income is generated by cotton. Other export goods are coffee, yams, cassava, corn, cement and textiles.

Togo is a developing tourism destination offering several tourist attractions. It is known for its wildlife and natural sites. There is currently only one UNESCO world heritage site. The main tourist attractions are beaches and wildlife safaris. Some of the main destinations are Kpalime, Koutammakou, Lome, Togoville, Fazao Malfakassa National Park, Keran National park and Kara. There were about 573,000 touristic visits to the country per year in average.
