Bahrain Sets April 2026 Start Date For BD 2 Passenger Registration Fee
The Kingdom of Bahrain will begin collecting a BD 2 passenger registration fee from travelers departing or transiting through Bahrain International Airport, starting April 24, 2026.
The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications confirmed the update through an official notification in the country’s gazette. The new charge has been added to Bahrain’s civil aviation tariff schedule and will apply to both outbound and transit passengers.
This change reflects a revision to Bahrain’s air departure service fees and forms part of a broader plan to improve the aviation sector’s financial framework.
The regulation will take effect 120 days after its official publication. The Ministry stated that this move supports national efforts to modernize how airport services are funded and to strengthen long-term investments in aviation infrastructure and passenger services.
Officials have not yet detailed how the fee will be collected. It remains to be confirmed whether the charge will be embedded in the price of airline tickets or paid separately during the departure or transit process.
The new charge aligns with Bahrain International Airport’s ongoing strategy to improve its standing as a regional air travel hub. In recent years, the airport has undergone major expansions, service improvements, and operational upgrades to attract more airlines and passengers.
Passenger-based fees are common across international airports and are typically used to maintain terminal services, expand capacity, and improve the overall travel experience.
Passengers booking flights through Bahrain after the April 2026 date are advised to factor in the BD 2 fee when finalizing their travel plans.
