Hong Kong SAR Passport Holders Can Enter Qatar Visa-Free for Up to 30 Days
Hong Kong SAR passport holders can now enter Qatar without a visa and stay for up to 30 days.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced the policy change on Monday during his official visit to the Middle East. The update takes effect immediately and replaces the earlier visa-on-arrival process.
Until now, Hong Kong travelers had to obtain a free visa upon landing in Qatar. On the other hand, Qatari citizens have already been allowed to visit Hong Kong without a visa for short stays.
The new change brings more balance to travel rules between the two regions and makes it easier for Hong Kong residents to enter Qatar.
Lee said the visit has three main goals which include building stronger ties with governments in the region exploring new areas of cooperation and growing international relationships. During meetings with Qatari officials both sides agreed to increase their work together in several sectors.
As part of the trip, 35 agreements and memorandums of understanding have been signed between Hong Kong and Qatar. These include areas like trade finance, technology, legal cooperation, and investment.
The deals are expected to help expand business connections and open new opportunities for both sides.
Lee also spoke about welcoming Qatari visitors to Hong Kong. He said the city has been working to make travel easier for Muslim tourists. One step includes offering more Halal-certified restaurants.
The visa-free entry marks a new chapter in travel and cooperation between Hong Kong and Qatar.
