Jamaica to Simplify Visa Application Process for GCC Visitors
The Minister of Tourism of Jamaica, Edmund Bartlett, announced plans to review the visa application process to draw in more visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Speaking at a press conference at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai on April 29, Bartlett highlighted the importance of tapping into the GCC market. He spoke about their growing interest in traveling to the Caribbean region, above-average spending patterns, and preference for extended stays.
“By removing unnecessary barriers to travel, we are sending a clear message that our country welcomes GCC visitors with open arms,” said Bartlett.
At present, travelers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are eligible for a visa on arrival, but Bartlett firmly believes that amending this arrangement could boost visitor arrivals from the GCC and significantly increase tourism revenue.
Bartlett added, “The GCC is the new frontier for Jamaica as we seek to diversify our source markets. Simplifying this visa arrangement will make it easier for their visitors to seriously consider Jamaica as a vacation option and allow us to tap into this lucrative market.”
According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, visitor arrivals from the GCC to Jamaica increased by 29 percent in 2024, with the UAE leading with a 37.3 percent year-on-year growth. There has also been a significant rise in visitor arrivals from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.
Director of Tourism Donovan White said, “We are already seeing an uptick in interest from the region, and we are working assiduously with our tour operators and other partners to provide various packages and experiences for visitors from the region.”
The Arabian Travel Market, which took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from April 28 to May 1, is one of the top international travel events, attracting industry professionals and government representatives from around the globe.
