Macao SAR Passport Holders Need an Entry Visa to Travel to Indonesia
Citizens of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China need to apply for an Indonesian entry visa before traveling to the country as of November 14, 2024, according to the Consulate General of Indonesia in Hong Kong.
The news comes after reports in late November that citizens holding a Macao SAR passport were unable to apply for an Indonesian visa on arrival and were refused entry to the country. These citizens may have been unaware of the changes to legislation as Macao SAR was, at the time, still included in the Indonesian Immigration Bureau website’s list of countries eligible to apply for a visa upon arrival.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong verbally indicated that Macao SAR passport holders were no longer eligible for visas upon arrival on November 25 and officially issued a note to the Macao SAR government confirming the matter on November 27.
All Macao SAR passport holders must now apply for an entry visa prior to their travels to Indonesia.
