Travellers to Apply for E-Visa to Mauritania from January 5
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, travellers have to apply for an e-visa to visit Mauritania from January 5, 2025. The West African nation is moving towards digitisation of its immigration processes by eliminating sticker visas, on-arrival applications, and the need to visit embassies or consulates. Travellers previously had to get a sticker visa from an embassy or consulate or obtain an on-arrival visa, but they can no longer do so.
Travellers must now apply for an e-visa via the website of the Mauritian National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles (ANRPTS) before they depart for Mauritania. They will then receive their visas electronically.
Applicants can choose from durations of 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days for their e-visa. The application form requests basic personal information, contact details, and the purpose of their visit. Applicants also need to specify how many times they wish to enter Mauritania (single, double, or multiple) during their visa validity period and the date of their arrival. Travellers also need to upload a passport-sized photo and a scanned passport copy with a minimum validity period of six months after they arrive.
Travellers need to print their e-visa and present it to the immigration authorities as they arrive in Mauritania. According to ANRPTS, the biometric details of travellers will be captured upon their arrival to finalize their entry into the territory.
