UK Government Restricts Trinidad and Tobago Nationals from Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
The UK government has prohibited Trinidad and Tobago citizens from applying for and using the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) after 23 April 2025. Up to this point, nationals of Trinidad and Tobago enjoyed access to the ETA alongside other commonwealth countries, enabling them to visit the UK for short-term travel without a visa. It is not known what caused this change by the UK government.
For citizens of Trinidad and Tobago traveling to the UK, the UK government has stated they must seek a tourist visa instead – or for other types of trip, such as work or business, the applicable visa.
The UK government has also issued guidance for Trinidad and Tobago citizens who already have an ETA, stating it will expire on 23 April 2025 unless the journey was booked before 12 March 2025, or the traveler arrives in the UK before 3pm BST on April 23, 2025.
The UK immigration office will need documentary proof of meeting the ETA entry requirements and travelers must not amend their booking to meet the new ETA rules.
If you are from Trinidad and Tobago and are traveling to the UK after the cutoff of 3pm BST on 23 of April 2025, your ETA will be terminated, and you will not be entitled to a refund. For citizens of Trinidad and Tobago already in the UK, the ETA is valid provided you follow the rules of the ETA and do not leave the United Kingdom and try to re-enter.
For any travelers affected and unsure about their immigration status, the UK government advises you should contact your local UK embassy for additional help and information.
