Uzbekistan Introduces Visa-Free Entry For U.S. Citizens
Uzbekistan has announced that it will grant visa-free entry to U.S. citizens starting January 1, 2026, under a presidential decree signed on November 3, 2025. The policy allows U.S. passport holders to enter Uzbekistan without obtaining a visa and stay for up to 30 days from the date of arrival.
Officials said the decision is part of a wider effort to simplify travel and strengthen Uzbekistan–U.S. relations. The change is intended to encourage more visits and strengthen cooperation in trade and the broader economy. The new policy also points to expanding cultural and humanitarian ties, while supporting tourism growth and more regular people-to-people contact.
The new rule expands an earlier, more limited arrangement. Since 2021, Uzbekistan has permitted visa-free travel for U.S. tourists who are 55 years old and above, with the same 30-day limit. The 2026 update extends the benefit to all U.S. citizens, which officials framed as a significant step for two-way travel and commercial contacts.
The broader rollout follows earlier policy planning in 2025. In May, Uzbek authorities discussed removing visa requirements for U.S. nationals as part of a push to increase foreign visitor numbers. That same effort also directed the Foreign Ministry to start talks with Washington on steps that could make travel easier for Uzbek citizens going to the United States.
Officials also stressed that visa-free entry does not remove other legal duties for visitors. Travelers still must follow local migration rules, including registration at a temporary address. In many cases, hotels handle registration for guests within the required timeframe.
