Visa-Free Travel to the USA for Romanians from 2025
On Wednesday, 27 November, the Romanian Embassy in the US announced that Romanians will soon be able to travel to the country visa-free as part of the Visa Waiver Program. This follows a report published by the US Department of State outlining the B1/B2 visa denial rate for the year 2024.
Currently, the main criterion for joining the US Visa Waiver Program is a visa refusal rate under 3%. According to the report, Romania had a 2.61% visa refusal rate from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024.
Andrei Muraru, Romania’s ambassador to the US, stated, “The process of Romania’s accession to the visa waiver program was extremely thorough and transparent, and the evaluation of the American authorities regarding Romania is almost completed.”
He continued to say that “Romanians will be able to travel to the United States without visas from 2025, giving this generation the chance to make the friendship with the American people an even stronger one and the opportunity to build an even more prosperous partnership.”
Representatives of the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security have evaluated Romania’s eligibility for the program in a report that will be sent to the US Congress.
Andrei Muraru confirms that he expects Romanians to be able to travel using the Visa Waiver Program at some point during the first quarter of 2025, following an official announcement from the US.
